Giacomo Mareschi Danieli: Danieli breaks ground in Luleå for advanced green steel plant

Danieli Group, the Italian manufacturers of plants and machines for the metals industry, will build in Luleå, Sweden, one of the most advanced facilities in the world in terms of energy efficiency and environmental standards. The plant, developed by the Group led by Giacomo Mareschi Danieli for the steel giant SSAB, will produce 2.5 million tons of special steels per year, with a 7% reduction in Sweden’s total CO2 emissions.

Construction has started recently, in the presence of Ebba Busch, Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, Minister for Energy and Minister for Business and Industry, as well as local authorities and industrial leaders. The plant is expected to go online by the end of 2028 and reach full operation in 2029. It will be equipped with the most advanced Danieli technologies, including two energy efficient DigiMelter furnaces powered by Q-One®, a state-of-the-art plant for secondary metallurgy, an integrated QSP® casting-direct rolling line, and systems for the treatment of water and gas complying with the highest environmental standards. These will enable the plant to reconcile two needs: maximum energy efficiency and full compliance with the most stringent environmental standards.

We are honored that Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch has described this project as a symbol of a new industrial era – says the CEO of Danieli Group Giacomo Mareschi Danieli – It is the confirmation that Italian technological innovation can generate concrete environmental, economic and social benefits, guiding the global transition toward a decarbonized and competitive steel industry”.
