In a world where sustainability and eco-consciousness are at the forefront of industry innovation, Danieli Group, under the leadership of CEO Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, is embarking on a new venture in Thailand. This project, in partnership with Meranti Green Steel, marks a significant leap towards a greener, more sustainable steel production process. The project not only showcases Danieli Group’s commitment to technological innovation but also underscores its dedication to environmental responsibility.
The group will establish a cutting-edge steel production facility in Thailand on behalf of Meranti Green Steel that will be based on Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) technology. What makes this project particularly remarkable is the use of renewable energy solutions, including hydrogen, wind, and solar power, to drive the production of sustainable hot-rolled coils. Danieli Group’s experience as a world leader in green technological innovation played a key role in Meranti’s decision to partner with the group. Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche S.p.A. has developed a world-renowned expertise in green technology, which is now set to reshape the steel industry. A crucial element of this partnership is the implementation of a direct reduction plant capable of operating with up to 90% hydrogen utilisation. This innovative technology, known as Energiron, was jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli. “We are glad and proud to be partners of Meranti for this challenging project”, said CEO Giacomo Mareschi Danieli during the event. “Danieli is one of the world’s leading suppliers for steelmaking – added Meranti’s CEO Sebastian Langendorf – and we believe that the advanced technology will play a critical role in decarbonizing steel supply chains”. As part of this partnership agreement, the Italian group will also supply Meranti with a Digimelter melting unit featuring a Q-One power feeder capable of processing green energy; and a QSP-DUE thin-slab casting and rolling line for full flexibility in terms of strip width, thickness, and steel grades.
“We are fully aligned with Meranti’s vision and approach to be front-runners in the Green Steel transition – concluded Giacomo Mareschi Danieli – and we are sure that Danieli’s cutting-edge technologies will allow Meranti to play a leading role in the Far East, flat-product market”.
